AUCKLAND, October 18

After a further protracted debate, a compromise removing the most contentious clauses was reached by the Anglican Synod yesterday, on the motion by the Rev. W. W. AveriH, dealing with social and monetary matters. A select committee was appointed to recast, the motion to make it acceptable to all members of the Synod.

The motion subsequently carried unanimously was: (1) “That tli.s Synod calls for fearless and immediate action on the part of those in authority, with the view to relieving the intolerable conditions under which a large section of the community is existing; (2) that 1 in the opinion of this Synod, the des- ! traction or curtailment of the fruits of ' industry, while millions remain in des- ' titution and want is a crime against ' God and humanity; (3) that the Synod i considers the root cause of the present I obvious maldistribution of God’s gifts ) is (he selfish lack of divine principle of stewardship.” Synod would therefore emphatically record its conviction that, the adequate and effective organisation of society, including its money system, must fulfil the following condition: —(a) Recognition of the sacredness of each human being; , (b) the practical exhibition of tile divine principle of human brotherhood; (c) the moral necessity of .jus-. 1 tice to all classes of human society ; \ (d) ;th'at this., Synod Ypnld therefore ! urge upon th.e.. ir Goyci,rnniotit the need i for an immediate inquiry' into the fql- | lowing masters: (i). the inadequacy pi relief pay; (2) the unfair treatment of | women and youths in matters of taxuI tion and relief; (3> the curtailment of pensions, especially old age and widows’ ; (4) the lack of provision of unemployed relief to elderly men, ineligible for either camp or pension; (5) the re-
