(Per Press Association—Copyright)

WELLINGTON, October 15,

An .opinion that England will be the Mecca of all interested in the moton picture business was expressed ,by Sir Gordon Elks, general manager for Australia and New Zealand of British 'Empire Filins 'Ltd., who is making a brief business trip to the Dominion, following a. tour abroad. Mr FUis told an interviewer that the reason, tor England’s popularity was financial stress in America. In Hollywood many studios were working half time, and with hall the stages occupied, English companies, fortified by many famous stirs and drectors from Hollywood, had grasped the opportunity 'to secure representation on title American market.

According to Mr Ellis, the picture business in the near future will be revolutionised by a type of coloured films which had been perfected in England whereby an image in natural colours would be thrown on the screen by .means of mechanical apparatus on a- projector.

Mr EHi.s said a considerable impetus had beon given Australian productions by the Government there offering a prize of £2OOO for the best picture to be produced during the coining year, and four studios were now wotkitig continuously. Mr Ellis spoke in the highest terms of New Zealand scenics, and said he, could see no reason why feature productions could not be made in the Dominion. It was his opinion That, in; future, all countries would bo living on their own productions, as was ,the case aiow in France and Germany.
