SYDNEY, October 16
Sir C. K'ngsford Smith says that he is looking forward to his forthcoming flight across Tasman Sea at the end of this year. Despite rumours to the contrary Smithy definitely sponsors the flight to New Zealand of the ’ twinengined monoplane now being built in Sydney. This plane will fly in company with the Southern Cross, and will be piloted by Squadron Leader T. White, of Timaru. Sir C. Ivingsford Smith says that, in his op’nion, this new monoplane is the right type for use in a national air service in the Dominion, and he is completing plans' to promote an aviation company with New Zealand capital, in which ho, will take an active interest. The plane is specially designed to suit New Zelaand conditions. *
WOMAN KILLED IN CRASH RABAUL, October IG. An Aeroplane, owned by the Ra~ haul Airways Syndicate, crashed at Kokopo. Mrs Graham Mirfield, a popular member of Rebaul society, was killed, and her husband was seriously injured. The pilot, Captain \V. Duncan formerly of the Royal Air Force was slightly injured, COBHAM TO ATTEMPT RECORD LONDON, October 15. Sir A. Cobham is purchasing two more air-liners, converting them torefueling tankers, for a four days’ non-stop flight to Australia. ULM ARRIVES AT CALCUTTA CALCUTTA, October 16. Ulm’s plane arrived here at 11.30 a.m. to-day. AN ARRIVAL AT KARACHI. (Received this -day at 11.35 a.m.) KARACHI, October 16. A Spartan air cruiser, “Faithful City,” with a pilot, Lypchblossa, and two passengers on a flight from London to Sydney anfl return, arrived here after 5.V days from London.
