At Kaimata yesterday, while a man was felling a tree, Paul, the five-year-old son of Air Roger Sullivan of the Power. House staff, approached .close without being seen, and was struck on the head by the axe, 'inflicting a wound that extended along the forehead to the eye, though fortunately, not penetrating the skull. The child was conveyed to Greymouth, and was attended by Dr Bird* and his condition was last evening reported as satisfactory.

At a largely attended public meeting at Westport on Friday to enquire into the treatment of nurses in the Bulier Hospital and hospital affairs in general, the following resolution was carried unanimously:—“That 'iihose present are dissatisfied with the conduct of the board in the recent inquiry, in the action of the board in suppressing the evidence of the nurses and in the unfair support given by the board to the matron, and that in the opinion of the meeting the whole of the present dissatisfaction has been caused bv the board’s maladministration and the attitude of the matron, and that the true position should be placed before the Minister for Health.” The meeting was called by the Deputy-Alayor in response to a petition containing 2000 names.
