LONDON, October 11
Larwood, interviewed at Annesiey
to-day, intimated j “If I am selected for England, -and Ma-rylethAie .instruct me Lot to bowl fast leg theory, j shall ■refuse to -play. There has -been fa-r 100 much bad blood about the .whole business. While lam glad it i s n-ow happily settled, I cannot help feeling that 1 have been let down. My conscience is as, clear to-day, as when I left Australia.” Larwood adued ; ‘ Unless I ; have another operation shortly I will -never be able to bowl again. .My foot hums acutely after any long walk It is no better than when I first hurt it in Australia.”
There is considerable newspaper comment in regard to the ending of the bodyline bow-ling controversy. The .‘‘Times” hopes the dispute -will quickly be- forgotten. It adds ; The M.C.C. rightly made no 'formal pledge limiting the freedom of the captain of the 1934 . team, ior - implying censure on the. captain of the 193-2 team. -It is clear that Jard;ine_retains, i.ifull confi?. dehce, ./but the .particular kind of fast leg bowling., that . was. the- subject of the controversy -will be dropped, not because It is illegal, but because lit interferes wtih our Australian friends' enjoyment of erieket,. and, consequently, , with pur own. The “Morning Post” has a heading “More (Humane Cricket,” and says; The-friendly cables end the great controversy, and constitute - a treaty of peace on the “I give that you may give,” principle, The “News Chronicle” - says : With out admitting any charges o’- ’■wonu'sitng any changes in the rules, the M.C.C. blandly suggests: it will 1 be all right in the future. .This is 'the right decision. ■ ” • ■ >
