IMPORTANT GENEVA MOVEMENT (By United Press Association’s Special Representative). GENEVA, October 11. There has been an important development of the Disarmament Conference. Herr Nadohiy visited M. • Bonc.our and conferred in a conciliatory . spirit for ninety minutes. He '•exspfoinbd tile German, Government’s • sincere desire to settle tlie problem. 5 but contended there should be a, free-ly-accepted Coiivehtion which Germany Would Be enabled to carry out. He : added that France and Germany had ’ afre&dy agreed' on. a number of points. •He • reiterated 1 Germany's desire to reach a- convention. • M. Bohcottr was unable to concur to all.' Herr .Nadolny’s references to '•points of agreement, but emphasised that the French Government could not make concessions in regard to .flindanientals, as undertakings with tile French public opinion could not 'eb disregarded. Otherwise, lie said, Fra rice,, would not- be unreasonable. :M. Bon corn- also referred to Mr Baldwin’s speech on October 6, es- ' pecially his... references to . the Locarno, Pact, which emphasise wliat the British Government had endorsed. It is understood that the British Government accepts the view that a preliminary, period of armaments siipefvision -is desirable and might,..re'suit.in securing a promise of. substantial disarmament on the part of France, if the German attitude were satisfactory, but the length of such period, it is felt, might well be .a. matter for negotiation. The British Government’s,, general attitude towards the whole question was fully defined by Mr Baldwin at Birmingham: on Friday, light, after consultation with- liis- leading colleagues of the Cabinet. - ;
