"Australia is very n\uch concerned about the position, 'and so is; New Zealand,” said .the’Minister of Customs, Mr Coates, .when' invited this evening- to comment'upon the , cabled report from Australia that negotiations are being conducted between, the two countries with a view to counteracting allegedly,- unfair competition of American-owned • isteannship (companies trading between the United States, New Zealand and Australia. In confirming the report, Mr Coates said the subject had been under • discussion within the last, few days. He was unable, however, to give any indication of the present state of .the, negotiations.
