Th® death occurred on Monday at the Biiller Hospital, of Mrs H. Satherlev, Oparara, Karamea, aged 65. She is survived by her husband (William) and a daughter Mrs Rhind (Oparara), and two sons Reg. (Oparara), -and Jack (Motueka).

A collison between a car and a motor-lorry occurred yesterday afternoon on the Camp Bridge, on the Greymouth-Runanga road. The motor Lorry, owned by Kent and Stevens, Ltd., and driven by Mr J. W. Johnson, was proceeding to Greymouth, and had stopped just on the bridge. A Buick five-seater touring car, driven by a Mr Williams, who was bound for Runanga, came on to the bridge at the same time, and could not stop in time to avert a colision. Both drivers escaped unhurt, but each vehicle was slightly damaged.

At the weekly meeting of the committee of the West Coast Rugby Union held at Greymouth last evening, the .'onference of delegates from the West Joust schools, which was held in Grey mouth on Saturday last submitted the following recommendation: “That- the Reefton State and Convent Schools be permitted to combine and take part in the Newman Shield competition.” The Union endorsed the recommendation as put forward, and it was decided to communicate with the Unions concerned, asking for their confirmation. It was decided to write to the Kumara Club asking them if any of their players had taken part in the League game there last Sunday. The McLean trophy matcn, Excelsior v. Cobden seniors, at Hokitika was set down for Saturday at Hokitika.

The County Council last evening passed a. motion of sympathy IwMi the family of the late James Kennedy of Greymouth, who had been prominent in local body associations over many years.

An alarm of fire was given to the Fire Brigade last evening about 6.45 o’clock, and two .reel companies -urnea -out. Tihe cause of the alarm was .an incipient outbreak in the front portion of the Westland Brewery, Fitzherbert street. Luckily the outbreak w s discovered in an early stage,, and was soon disposed of by means of a few buckets of water, the services of the Brigade not being required. Practically no damage was done.

I The funeral of the late Mr John Bradley, of Arahura, took place yesterday ' afternoon and wag attended by a very large following of friends. The cortege left the residence, Arahura and came on to All Saints’ Church and thence to the cemetery. The Rev. H. J. W. Knights conducted both services. There was a long line of motor cars following. Many beautiful floral tributes were placed on “the grave from sorrowing I friends and relatives.

There wa s considerable activity at the Hokitika) aerodrome early this morning. At 6.45 a..m, the West ■Coast Airway’s Spartan plane, piloted by Mr A. H. Nancekivell, left for Wellington, stopping at Greymouth for a passenger who later attended the funeral of the lat© Mr H. E. Holland at Wellington. The plane reached Wellington at 10.40 a.m. after a fast trip, and it will return to Hokitika to-mor-row. At 7.20 a.m. this morning, Mr Matheson, piloting the 'Redwing, also left for Wellington via Nelson and Blenheim, flying -so)lo>. A little over an hour later Mr J. C. Mercer, who came overlmd from Christchurch, took off for Christchurch in the Moth plane, Z.K. A.A.H.. which he left here last week. Yesterday, Mr Mercer flew to Okuru taking Mrs 'Eggling as pa s senger. He returned to Hokitika last evening.
