LARCENY CHARGE

ALLEGED CONFIDENCE TRICK DEPOSITIONS FROM PARIS LONDON, September 20. A last-minute hustle on the part of the French Embassy prevented the unconditional release of Carl Muller, an Australian, who had been charged at Bow Street Police Court with larceny in Paris. The extradition treaty between France and Britain allows a fortnight in which to produce evidence. The depositions had failed to arrive and the magistrate had twice postponed the accused's discharge,'but eventually, as the result of urgent telephoning, they came to hand without having been translated. It was alleged that the prosecutor was told tlm usual “rich uncle” story in Paris and that he parted with £4OO. He met Muller in London a year later and gave him in charge. Muller alleges that it is a case of mistaken identity.
