BODYLINE BOWLING. (United Press Association—By Electria Telegraph—Copyright) LONDON, September 28. “To suggest that any member of an English cricket team would bowl deliberately to cause injury to a batsman is absurb,” said Lord Hailshain at a cricket gathering at Eastbourne. “If, however, such tactics, although carried out in a true sporting, sense, were likely seriously to jeopardise friendly relations as between England and Australia, then it would be betted if they were dropped.” COMMENT ON LORD HAILSHAM. (Receive tins day at 10 a.in.) LONDON, September 29, Thg “Evening Standard’s” diarist) expresses the opinion that Lord HailsI ham’s speech in view of the presidency, marks the end of the bodyline controversy, but adds, I wonder whether Lord - Hailshain when a barrister, would have advised a client to plead “not guilty, but 1 will not do it again.” NEXT YEARS* FIGHT , LONDON, September 29. Expressing high hopes that Larwood will be available for play, A. W. Carr, the Notts captain, writing in the “Daily Sketch,” says that the fight fop the Ashes next year will centre owi Larwood and Bradman. The success of either will decide the* issue. Carr picks the team for the first Test as follows-; Sutcliffe, Walters, Hammond, Leyland, Jardine (captain.), Ames, James Langridge, Voce, Robins, Larwood, Bowes.’ Twelfth man: Verity. Carr considers that Voce’s inclusion: is entirely dependent upon Larwood’s; fitness. If Larwood is not available, Clark and Allen should replace them. Voce, he says is 100 per cent more effective when Larwood is playing. All of the first eight in the above team have exceeded one thousand runs for the season. Walters would be preferable to Bakewell as a partner for Sutcliffe, because; he is a sounder player. Langridge-,, the best all-rounder of the year, displaces Wyatt. Bowes, the best new-ball bowler in England, is included as a third fast, bowler. Robins is a googly bowler, a. brilliant fieldsman, and is a useful batsman.
