At the Magistrate’s Court Westport, on Wednesday, George Thomas, a . resident of Deniiistoh, was charged with breaking and entering the shop of Charles Webster, and also with the theft of a quantity of men’s clothing valued at £2O. Accused pleaded guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court.for sentence, bail being allowed in self £SO, and one surety of £SO. Hon. A. Hailiilston stated in ‘the House recently that the latest compilation oi \;he Cfivernimcnt Statistician dealt with the all-group figures for May’ and November of 1932, together with May and August of this year, and also with those of August, 1932, -and August,. 1933. These showed a fall of (18 points from May, 1932, to August, 1933. or a. fall in the cost of living of 5 per cent. A comparison of the August figures for each year showed that the cost of living had fallen 39 points or about 3 per cent. As they were official details they must be accepted as being correct.
