NAVAL VISIT

FAREWELL MESSAGES. (Per Pre s s Association, Copyright). NEW PLYMOUTH, Sept. 28. A f ter the -manoeuvres of the Australian and -New Zealand warships in Cook Strait last night and thi s morning, the Diomede arrived at New Plymouth this evening. The Canberra and Australia departed after exercises for Australia. The Fa.irey 3.F seaplane 'left New Plymouth at 5 a.m. to-day. She sighted the warships off Cape Farewell, and the was back at Yew Plymouth at 8.55 a.m. Later she left for IlbbsoUviMo. WELLINGTON, 'September 28.

In reply to a telegram sent bv the 'Governor-General t<> Rear-Admiral Dalglish on the departure of the Australian Naval Squadron from New •Zealand waters, ,His Excellency has received the following wireless message; "I ami l he Squadron under tny command arc deeply grateful l',>r Your Excellency's gracious message, The kindness, hospitality and friendship with which we have been welcomed during our visit do New Zealand will always be to us a very happy and lasting memory. (Signed) bob in Dalglish, 'Rear-Admiral, 'Commanding Australian Squadron.” The Prime Minister sent the fallowing telegram to Admiral Dalglish; “On the eve of your departure from New Zealand shores, I desire, on behalf of the Government, to express attain the very great pleasure the v : sit of the Australian Squadron has given to the people of Now Zealand. We trust that your sojourn among u. s h\s been Interesting a n d enjoyable. Such visits undoubtedly serve to strengthen still further friendly relationsh'us between the Commonwealth and ‘the Dominion.”

Admiral Dalglish has .rep'l'ed : “T thank you for your kind message, which I shall have great p’e?sure in conveying to the Commonwealth Government. His Majesty’s Australian. Squadron ' has thoroughly enjoyed its visit to New Zealand, and all of the officers and men are most grateful cf the opportunity which your Govern ment has so\ kindly given them to see as much of the country as wa.s pos.Gble during their stay. Rare friendliness and spor'taneons. hospitality extended 'wherever we have been fortunate enough to visit made evident to us the deep regard and warmth of heart that New Zealand has for the Commonwealth.”
