The roughest game of football seen at Auckland for many years was player to-day, when the Richmond Club, -of Auckland, beat the St. George team, from Sydney, at Rugby League by 13 points to 8. From the start the referee penalised the visitors freely. This was for shepherding and obstruction. /There were continual scuffles in which ■ boots and fists were freely employed, the ■culminating point-being reached when the home team were awarded a penalty ijry for : obstruction. Then /' followed an affray between the two sets of forwards, and some of the, backs, fists being used, aikl the referee separated the with- great difficulty, but in spice of ; hi s . warning, illegal play continued until the end. For Richmond, ..’Satherley, Metcalf (penalty try) and Abbott Scored, while MeMeich . and ./Satherley each kicked a penalty goal. For St. George Robinson kicked a penalty goal, ana.
