west coast rugby union. GREY-MOUTH, September 27. The weekly meeting Of the management committee of the West Coast 'Rugby Union was held last evening at Grey mouth.

A deputation from the Inangnhun Rugby Sulb-Union consisting of Messrs T. 'C. Hepburn (President), and Clark ('Secretary) waited upon the Union with a request that the rules of the Secondary Newman Shield Competition be altered so as to allow the two 'Reefton schools (District ‘High and Convent ) to amalgamate. It was explained tjha.t the Convent ■ team could not put out a full team, whilst the strength of the High School would not be very great without the assistance of the other school. The deputation assured the Union, that Haller and Westland Unions were agreeable. It meant altering the rules, or making a provisional alteration that schools with insufficient boys to put out a strong enough team be allowed to .combine with another team, provided these two schools d : d ■not have a; roll of over a certain total

Members were of the opinion that they should endeavour to assist the Sttib-tJnion in its difficulty, and a small committee was set up to Endeavour to carry ofit the wishes of the deputation.
