SCRAP IRON PURCHASES BY JAPAN (Per Press Association, Copyright). WELLINGTON. September 25. The total export of scrap metal from Now Zealand to Japan tb s year is 21,577 tons, of a value of £25,041. The Asara Marti, now coaling at Wellington, is taking 5500 tons, including 2100 tons from here. The Nankwa Maru takes 500 tons next month. It is stated that practically all of the scrap purchased is being used for reinforcing concrete. A private company in Japan is reported to be buyng the metal and selling 'it for the strengthing of concrete structures, as required by the Japanese law. Part of the metal, however, will be used in building new ships. '
