CONCERT AND BALL
A KOKATAHI SUCCESS. ••(From a Correspondent.) •A most siuvessful school concert was held in the Kokatahi Public Hall on Friday last. A very large audience attended and • committee funds -will benefit considerably. V' .■ Features of the evening were three playettes: “Molly’s. Wish,” a fairy scene by the school .children; “Our Black Brothers,” a- humourous sketch by six boys; “The Best Cure,’- in which . Messrs E. Boddington and . T. Morris were the nurses, Jack Shivas the patient. Mass A. Sherriff his wife, and ‘Miss J. Veale the servant. A sketch “Miss Ophelia and Topsy” to which Sarah Da’ziel acted Ophelia and Mary Kemp, Topsy, was very much appreciated by all. Three folk dames,. “The Black Nag,’’ “If all the World were Paper,” and “Beap the Flax,” by the school children were novel and interesting to the audience. The junior girls and boys were seen in two items: “Ten Little Nig 2 ,® 1 * .Bovs.” and “The Old Women in theShoe” caused much amusement. M as terThomas 'Sherriff provided a violin solo, which was followed by a recitation by Miss Evans of Hokitika (encored). Nellie Woolhouse and Jean McCullum-. danced “The Irish Jag” daintily. Th® most applauded item was a demonstration of turning cart wheels given . "by Misses I. and L. Kemp and V. Lyes. The final item was a humourous Sketch given by Miss Evans and Miss Veale and was cleverly executed. At the conclusion of tire concert the chairman of the school committee, Mr M. Wallace, congratulated arid thanfcMr Bussell, the headmaster, and Miss Veale. the assistant mistress, for their 1 splendid work in preparing the children. Thanks were also due to all the. other ladies and gentlemen who had! assisted in making the function a success. to the business people for generous donations and the .public for tlie'J patronage. Miss Veale was presente with. a beautiful posy of flowers, and. the school children were each presented! with a small gift donated by the members of the committee. V / Slipper was served after the cor .cert and was followed by a most enjoyable dance, the music bemg supplied by Mrs Wallace, piano, Messrs P.' Crough and W. Kelly violin, . J. -Msttingby, bank), ar.d A- Stephens,, drums. Mr A. Woolhouse had charge of'the floor.
