It is understood that us the result of their conversations, France, Britain, tlie United States and Italy have virtually agreed on having disarmament l .n two stages—the first to extend over four years in which no new armaments shall be allowed, and then a substantial, reduction. An important point is that France has agreed in principle to give effect to sucvli. disarmament. The; Executive Committee of' tire British Branch of the League of Nations ha s passed a resolution assuring government of its strongest support for the Government's' present efforts to secure a convention lor the reduction and limitation of armaments,. with effect control, and expressing the ibelief that the adoption of such a Convention is more essential now than ever. The Executive trusts that the ■Government will press for ail automatic, periodic, and effective system of supervision, applicable to all countries alike, and for >a reduction in armaments which would begin on the ratification .of a C onvention, and would proceed hv regular stages. The military attaches of sixteen countries were present on Salisbury Plain to-day .during the Aldershot and Southern Commands’ exercises.
