IN EELMONGERY 1,400 MEN IDLE. (Australian Press Association). SYDNEY, September 24. A Government effort to settle the gold miners’ strike has failed on the Simrpv. The timriermen and shiftmen lmvq been .ordered out. The pumpmen were allowed to work on suffr-ance, as their withdrawal would mean that three neighbouring mines would be flooded.

'The Secretary of the iMineworkers’ Association -states that ail of the unions concerned in mining are endeavouring to co-ordinate their demands, ,they feeling that the workers -are not sharing the benefits of the sold premium fo r which action the Federation has been summoned for Oc-» tober 3rd. The situation is regarded as critical.
