The panie was a. disappointing one, the. Buffer team apparently having a bad day off. Nothing wont right with them. The forwards did not have, the vim as usual, .find failed to follow up as well as usual. The tackling, of the team was shocking at timer;, ami let the play go away, while there seemed no cohesion among the backs, and they were continually out of position, with the result that fo.ur times the defence was broken at half way and the opponents went half the field with no one nn front of them, to score. The hacks. handled well in their passes to the last man, but having got that far the
ball was repeatedly lost and the chance went' begging. Coast forwards played well together, and their loose rushes at times took’ charge, several scores coining from tlie' open rushes whiqh beat the defence to a standstill. The .backs, though far from' perfect at times, always gave it a go aiid the two ,wings made characteristic dashes .that won well deserved scores. Gilbert and King gave fine exhibitions and wore always in the picture. Davidson and Taaffe were brilliant at times hut made a number of,mistakes, while , Garth gave a, very fair 'showing. To the Coast forwards must he given pride of /dace, Hughes, Thompson, M. Kelly | and "Thiele giving specially fine exhibitions.
