This section of railway will derive its tractive force from rivers whose energy has been converted into hvdro-electric power. The power will he carried via Khandallah sub-station and five new railway sub-stations are to be erected to the electric locomotives through overhead gear, the construction of which has now been begun at Paekakariki end.
