ELECTRIC RAILWAY
ON MAIN TRUNK. (Per Press Association Copyright.) WELLINGTON, September 22. The work of electrifying the North Island Main Trunk Railway between Wellington and Paekakariki has begun, Poles for carrying the overhead electric lines are ’ now being erected from Pnekakarikj to a point south of Pukenia Bay station, In no long time electric locomotives like those that attract the attention of visitors at Lyttelton and Otira will be an everyday feature of the WellingtonPaekakariki traffic. This section of railway will derive its tractive force from rivers whose energy has been converted into hvdro-electric power. The power will he carried via Khandallah sub-station and five new railway sub-stations are to be erected to the electric locomotives through overhead gear, the construction of which has now been begun at Paekakariki end. ' '
