£'3l3, 862 FROM TOLL FEES. « In a statement .in tile New South Wales Legislative Assembly recently, the Minister of Transport, Mr Erusnerj gave particulars of the cost of con'st,ruction of the Sydney Harbour Bridge up to June 30 last. He said that Dorman, Long and Company’s Contract was £4,802,634; main bridge .salaries, £263,883.; approaches, £2,065,429; resumptions, £.1,339,027; Lavender Bay station, £85,564; Kent Street widening, £5495; road at Moral ya, £150; interest on expenditure £1,414,401; exchange on remittances, £80,578. Total, £IO,O-57,170. The Minister said that no residues had been sold up to the present, and that the question of their value was at present receiving consideration. The revenues derived from the residues before the opening of the bridge were set off against the cost of resumptions, and were included in the net cost of resumptions. The gross revenues received from residues from the date l of the opening of the bridge on Marc 19, last year, to June 30, this year, amounted to £.4972, while expenses incurred totalled £1595. The amount of interest charged during construction on expenditure to March 19, 1932, was £1,414,401. The cash amounts received from taxation (contributions by councils) were as follows!—To March 19, 1932, contributions, £1 $51,923; interest thereon credited by the Treasury, £337,978; total, £1,689,901. This total amount had been used in reduction of the capital cost of the bridge. From March 19, 1932, to June 30 last-, contributions totalled £310,495. It was proposed that this amount should also be used in reduction of the capital cost.
Mr Bruxner said that the actual gross receipts from road, rail and tram charges for the period March 20, 1932, to June 30, 1933, amounted to £313,862. Subject to adjustment, the interest due. amounted to £435,455, of which £239,743 had been paid. Exchange due amounted t-o £88,836, of which £31,110 had been paid. Sinking fund due totalled £33,120, but nothing had been pnids The maintenance of the bridge cost £11,562, and the cost of toll collection was £12,335.
