MONEY FOUND IN THE SAND. RESULT OF RECENT GALE. AUCKLAND, Set?. 14. One effect of the easterly gale which prevailed during the past two days has been to provide people living in the vicinity of Milford Beach with something of the excitement of a treasure hunt in the sand. Oji the occasion of, a storm some months ago, the discovery was made that heavy seas breaking upon the beach scoured the sand and exposed sums of money lost by holidaymakers. Encouraged by the frequent discovery of coins and articles of value, Milford residents have visited the beach since Sunday in search of objects of worth laid bare by the action of the waves. Considerable success has attended the efforts of the searchers. One young man found coins amounting to £1 os, and other investigators have obtained sums ranging from solitary pennies to silver coins of all denominations. Several amounts totalling more than 10s have been discovered. One diligent searcher found a diamond ring of considerable vaf'.e, another a gold signet ring. Residents have become so enthusiastic that many have undertaken methodical inspections of the beach. More than 100 were observed yesterday, some equipped with rakes and shovels and others v ith sieves.
