TWENTY-FIVE YEARS ACO. From “Guardian” for Week Ending September 16, 1908. Conciliation Board —For some years the Westland Conciliation Board has been defunct but it is now to be resuscitated. For this purpose nominations are called for the positions of two employers’ and two workers’ representatives. Should an election be necessary t it will be held on September 21. This step is considered necessary on account of the Canterbury Board being unable to hear the Otira dispute, which will accordingly haye to wait until the local hoard is reconstructed.
Borough Water Supply.—The pipe line for the borough water supply has now reached down Hampden Street to Be veil Street, the excavations necessary being in progress at the junction southwards to-dav. Mining.—Worksop (5 days) X>cV>z; Pactolus I (135 hours) 240 z; Callaghan s Creek (129 hours) 21oz; Pactolus 11. (122 hours) looz. South Westland Notes.—Mr A. M. Leitch has taken over Mrs Mcßride’s Caledonian Hotel at Okarito. Mr Fitzgerald is making good progress with the Wataroa bridge contract. Mr P. Hende and party are also making good progress with the widening of the main South Road between Waiho Gorge and Cook River.
County Elections.—Mr S. G. Fergu. son will accept nomination for the Okarito Riding and Mr T. W. Bruce will he a candidate for the Totara Riding. Mr T. W. Duff is mentioned as a probable candidate for the Arahura Riding.
