ISSUE OF CLOTHES IN NEW YORK PRESERVING APPEARANCES ' NEW YORK, September 12. To enable them to present a. good aptpearance when engaged in the arduous task of looking for employment, 16,000 men in'New York' City were'recently given suits of clothes. For’this puipose th e suits' were manufactured at the rate of 3000 a week, and the co-opera-tion of manufacturers and workmen tnade it possible for the suits to be turned out without profit to anyone. In addition, 1500 unemployed garment workers were put to wprkwhich took them from six to govern weeks to complete, a further 11,000' suits were to be distributed, making a total of 27,000. The American Red Gross cooperated in the movement, by distributing cotton clothing manufactured from a large supply of cotton it had available. 1
