BUILDING SUBSIDY. (Per Press Association, Copyright) PALMERSTON N., September 13. The total applications in Palmerston North under tne building subsidy are ■l/'O of wliich 212 are approved to date. The figures include 137 new buildings, of which 74 so far have been approved. The estimated cost of all approved works is £80,575, including, labour £22,538 on which the subsidy is estimated at £8,894. On tbe closing date no fewer than 58 applications were received. DAFFODIL SHOW. PALMERSTON N., September 13. The seventh annual show, of the National Daffodil Society, opened with a. magnificent display of blooms, held m conjunction with (the local societies’ annual exhibition. It is of unsurpassed excellence, -a splendid season having favoured the growth of glorious flowers. Commenting on the display Mr J. L. Weightman who judged the last two national shows said he had never seen finer blooms than these in the North Island championship classes. The entries numebr 650. CLAIM FOR COMPENSATION. AUCKLAND, September 13. The asertion, that while working as a quarryman in a confined space, exposed to the sun, he contracted sunstroke, or heat apoplexy, wa s the basis of a claim for compensation made in the Arbitration Court by Robert Hunter Dowie, aged 56, of Te Kuiti against the Waitomo Lime Company, Ltd. He contended this was an accident within the meaning of the Act. The company denies that plaintiff worked in an enclosed or exposed place. The hearing is proceeding.
