ASHBURTON, September 13 Two tneri who visited Ashburton last Friday spent a good deal of tune stealing goods from shops, and then daring methods enabled them to walk out of a number of business premises carrying articles valued at nearly £IOO. The thefts took place during the busiest hours' of the busiest day of the week. None of ' the shopkeepers who had been robbed knew about their losses till the police asked them to identify the articles that were recovered. At an outfitter’s shop, the men took over £ls worth -of goods. One en-, gaged the attention of' the man behind the counter while the other tried on overcoats and suits, and looked a t tics and scarves. When they left they j carried an overcoat, a suit, a number j of ties, and a shirt. At another shop, they went away with several pairs of trousers, two shirts, an overcoat, several scarves, and some cutlery. Elsewhere, they took watches and inexpensive jewellery.
