Thp candidates and supporting speakers made their final appeals to the electors tonight, after one of the. most spectacular, campaigns ip’ the history of New, Zealand politics: Mr- Coates addressed his last meeting in the campaign at Lyttelton tonight. When he had finished ,he thanked the audience for their giving him an extraordinary good hearing, “I> can’t understand it,” he said. “I was told that 1 1 would never, get out of, here alive!”

Mr - Coates lias; had very good hearings at all his meetings. At some there have been some interjections, but most of this noise, has. come from a few people. The only meetings at which organised interruption went near to denying; a hearing to- a, speaker were some earlier , mduiings of Mr Freeman. . ..." - ' l . '
