SHIPS HAVE ROUGH TIME. EXTENSIVE DAMAGE DONE. (Per Press Association, Copyright). AUCKLAND, September 11. The violent easterly gale which raged throughout the week-end abated early this morning, but intermittent rain continues. The steamer Karetu from Suva ran into the storm at four o’clock yesterday morning and some of her cargo of bananas and other fruit shifted in the hold and was smashed.
