WIN'GGSA IN U.S.A. CHALLENGE FOR EQUIPOISE. i [United Press Association—By Electric 1 elegraph—Copyright). SEATTLE, September 9. The “Seattle Post Intelligencer” to-morrow will print a copyrighted article by Mr Ru.'e Naylor, replying to the contentions of Mr Whitney and other Eastern horsemen in connection ■ i w ; 'rJ|li the suggestl/lpii of a Winooka--1 Equipoise race, as cabled on September 7. I Mr Naylor writes: “Disparaging remarks concerning Winooka’s eligibility to a match with Equipoise are against racing facts. Winooka. is recognised as being the fastest sprinter produced in Australia and New Zealand. This i». backed by bis season’s record of his wins in Sydney and Mebourne.” He issues a formal challenge to Equipoise's owner for a six furlong race late in October, either in New York or in Maryland. Mr jM. Poison (trainer) /and other i members of Winooka’s entourage, also ] took exception to Mr Whitney’s remarks, and intimated that their horse’s backers are prepared to wager heavily ngaihst Equipoise, They suggest that : the winner take all the match. It is said Mr Naylor hns been authorised by Messrs MacDonald and Matthews to wager ten thousand dollars that Winooka will defeat Equipoise at seven furlongs, Poison to-day stated that bis, horse is reaching the top of his form. He predicted that Winooka would break the world’s six furlong record in his match * against Onrush on September 16.
PILLOW FIGHT FAILS. VANCOUVER, September 8. At Rentonwash, Pilloiv Fight ran a poor fourth in a six furlong match i race on Friday, trailing Grattan in third place by ten lengths. Bonny Grafton was first in lmin 10 4-ssee. Linden • Tree was second, a length behind and i f°er lengths ahead of Grattan. George Ellis was up on Pillow Fight, wlfb ran wide throughout most of the race and was never threatening.
TEA TRADER’S PACIFIC DEBUT. (Received this day at 11 a.m.) SEATTLE (Washington), Sept. 10. •Tea Trader makes his Pacific North, west debut here on Sunday in the five furlongs handicap. Three others entered including Bonny Grafton, who was victorious over Pillow Fight on Friday.
