After a fine spell and a glorious weekend there was a change in conditions this morning and towards noon a strong northerly was blowing with a light rain shower and the propsects ot rougher conditions prevailing. Visitors from far and wide have signified their intention of coming in hard up dress to the Hard Up Old Time Ball ill the Soldiers’ Half, on Wednesday night. There will be cash prizes of 10s 6d for the best hard up ladies' and gelds’ costumes. Under ideal conditions a. 'return match between the Hokitika and Greymoutb Golf Clubs was played on the Umolu links dulling the week end. Jfo significance was attached to the game, and no record of the scores were kept. The lip.ks and greens were in splendid Older and the visit was thoroughly enjoyed. Tlie- Dittman Shield match at Hokitika on Saturday attracted only a moderate attendance due in the mlain to counter attractions, chief of which was the Ranfurly Shield broadcast. This match which is generally the big match of the season here, has generally attracted a large attendance in the past, but the decrease was noticeable on Saturday. As usual the Weld and Stafford Street “galleries” were well patronised.
