The allegation of rough >play in the Payne Trophy match w% discussed by the Rugby Union last evening, when the (Mr <R. J. G. (Mlins); said that it was more like a wrestling match than football. He had given a number of warnings, and had it been a club competition .match he would have considered ordering off several players. A discussion arose over the following letter from the Sydenham Club; “Owing to the slanderous attitude taken by the Otago Union, my committee demands an open, inquiry into the play during the Payne Trophy match.” The Union decided to write to the Otago Union pointing out that the ■Canterbury Union had seen the discussion in the -newspapers, and asking it Otago had any complaints.
