CAR CAPSIZES
DRIVER’S FORTUNATE ESCAPE. Auckland, August 27. An unusual accident in which he was fortunate to escape serious, injury befel Mr K. 'Cole, a grader drive r employed by the Public Works Department at Warkworoh, when he was returning from work by car early last evening from'Omaha. j Mr Cole had with him i,n the car Mr M. S'imonsen, also of Warkworth, and they shopped the car on the side of the road to give a pedestrian a lift. The clay formation on which the vehicle was stopped was part of a new , filling, and it subsided, causing the car to capsize. The car, .a sedan model, .turned ' a complete* somersault and j landed on its side a few feet below. ' Mr Simoiisen was, thrown clear and was uninjured, but Mr Cole was •thrown through the glass side window j of the car, and when the vehicle fame to rest was .pinned beneath it face downward, with his head almost buried in the mud. Mr 'SimoLsen , had the , greatest difficulty in extricating his,, companion' in time' to save him .froin! suffocation.
