TAX PROTESTS

FREQENT ST. PIERRE RIOTS - MARTIAL LAW CONDITIONS. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyrigb fe). ST. PIERRE Miquelon, August 27. There has been rioting by the populace of St. Pierre as a protests iagainst the imposition of taxes by the Governor of the French Colony of Miquelon. It resulted in the rushing of two warships to the port, and the occupation of the city by armed sailors. A number of citizens have been arrested, iand the sailors are patrolling the streets. The Governor’s action was taken in disregard of a protests jng vote by the elected members of the Government Council.
