Tile Daily Mail says the committee of the Kent county cricket club has refused Ames permission to tour India with the English team on the ground that it would be too strenuous after four successive seasons. It also desires to keep him fit for the matches against the Australians in 1934.
The paper discounts speculation as to England’s team for next season, recalling that the selectors will cease to function in December.
Quoting one of the most prominent members of the committee of the Marylebone Club as its authority the Evening News says there is no possibility of a professional captaining England in 1934, as has been rumoured. The authority says it is true that Jnrdine will not retain the captaincy, also that the dearth of first-class amateurs is disturbing the authorities, hut they never envisaged appointing a professional.
