FRAUD CHARGES

SHARE SALESMAN IN COURT.

CHRISTCHURCH, August 25

Charged with obtaining £l2B front two women to whom it is alleged lie soldi' shares' in the Premier Tobacco Co., Nelson, when lie had no authority to do so, Edgar James Wilson, a sales-, man aged .37, appeared before Mr E.' R. Mosley, in the Magitsrate’s Court. He pleaded nob guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial. 'He Was charged wi th obtaining £125 from Elizabeth Smith, by representing that lies was a representative of the Premier Tobacco Co., and with' obtaining £3 from Olive Barradough by the same means. Accused' was represented by Mr ft. Twyneham.

Elizabeth Smith, of 368 Durham Street, said accused called on her on July 25, and she paid £125 to him for shares in the Premier Tobacco Co. She, paid the sum in two amounts ot £25 and.£loo, arid was given receipts for the amounts. Witness had n 0 reason to believe accused was not a representatiye of. the company. On July 29 accused informed her that lie was going to Nelson. She became suspicious, and spoke to the manager of aii insurance company about the transaction.
