LANDING GROUNDS
INSPECTION OF WEST COAST

Aeroplane landing grounds—present end capable of being developed in the future—on the West Coast have been thoroughly examined during the last few days by Squadron Leader T. M. Wilkes, Director of Air Flight Lieutenant M. W. Buckley, N-Z.P.A.F-, •and Mr iE. A’ Gibson, a Public Works Department engineer. They have visited towns and between Westport and the Franz Josef 'Glacier and returned to Christchurch by car last might. ,
A ' considerable part of their time /had been taken up advising enthusiasts on ft he, possibilities of develop- , ing the several grounds pointed out. Included in the inspection haye been I places where, at present there t» no possibility of landing, but. which : might be made into suitable grounds ,in time to come. The party regards the work being, carried out a't Westport in the interests of flying as on the right lines and advised on improvements at Hokitika,, where there is already an aerodrome.
■lt is proposed that a. federation of aero clubs shall be, formed, similar to that on the West Coast of the North Island, and the hope has been expressed that the West Coast, of the south will be linked up A 3 Canterbury is with South Canteronry. (The tour of inspection bolds more thin . usual importance in view of the probability of establishing an air service beween Hokitika and South Westland in the near future.
