The No. ■-7 Transport Licensing Authority sat at Groyn 10ut,h yesterday to deal with applications for- renewal of goods services licenses. ,Dr S., A. Gibbs'A presided] and the othe r members of, the Authority, Messrs J, W. Human and W. T. Churchward, were also .present.

Murdoch) applied for, a.. continuous goods service license from . Hokitika to Cook’s River, With, deviations on the side.; roads,—Approved.

William Janies Lester, route license, Maruia to Reefton, Reefton to Mai’uia ■Springs, and Maruia to Murchison.— Approved.

The Westland Cool Storage and Daily Company, Ltd., Hokitika (Mr J. Murdoch), applied , for a goods service license over the Westland County and into the Kumara Borough.—Approved, applicant to cart only for, suppliers, shareholders a pel the Westland Aoclimatisytion Society.

Robert Patterson, Reefton, applied for a continuous license for the Inangahua County area,.

Mr Brittendensaid applicant was « storekeeper at Reefton and -relied upon certain lines which he picked up at Inangahu-a . Junction to defray his running costs, and he was in this respect i n .direct competition wtih the Railway Department. A restriction that applicant 'be not permitted to pick up goods within two miles of the railroad would probably meet the case The application w? 6 -granted -on the conditions ■ set out by Mr Brittenden.

Bros-uan) applied for a similar license between Punakaiki and Greymouth.—Approved, with a right to pick up timber within a radius of seven miles of Greymouth for delivery north of Rap a hoe. James Michael Prebble, MaHinui (Mr A. M. Jamieson) applied for a continuous license from Hokitika- to (Whiho, wi:h minor deviations.—Approved, but restricted to one day a week between Ros's and Hokitika. J. ,R. 'McKay applied for a continuous goods service license from Ro-fi Railway Station to Wait aha.—Approved.

John Patrick Hansbury applied for a goods service license from Ross to Wailio Gorge.—Approved. George -Searle applied for a 'Continuous goodfi service from Ross to Harikari, with deviations, also right to convey timber to Ross railway station from any point as fa r south as Waiiho, also right to connect with railway to Christchurch 'with whitebait, when unable to colmCct at Ross. GeOrge Arthur Moiik (M r T. F. Bi'OSmn) applied for a continuous _ license from’ Lower Kokatahi to Hokitika. Mr A. M. Jamieson represented 'Mr A, K,' Stephens, who Objected to the application, -and applied for -a- continuous license from Hokitika to Lower Kokatahi and v ica versa, also from Hokitika to Koiterangi. The -applicant, A. E. Stephens, said he was able to cope with the goods offering in that district in three days. There were two other carriers Sn addition to -himself and Monk. Mr Jamieson submitted there was not sufficient goods offering for another man to enter into competition. (M r BiW-n-an- submitted there was sufficient work for two men. His client held -a three years’ butter carting contract.

The applicant Cummings, was also permitted to cart explosives -from Greymouth to Waiuta under contract to the B'lackwater Mines.

Stewart and Halswell, applied for license to make one trip per week from Nelson to. Hokitika, via Inangahua,

Blackwater and Greymouth with Griffon and Company’s (Neleonl, consignments and parcels not exceeding 56lbs and household removals. The application was approved, applicants not to pick up or set down freight Inangahua— Greymouth—Hokitika inclusive except consignments as above, and to or from north of Inangahua. Applicant i s not to carry goods to or from 'Murchison district except as above. The .application as regards the. route between Hokitika and Ros s was withdrawn. .Their application from, Nelson to Ofcari,to Forks was also approved. Fahey Bros., continuous goods service license from Haupiri, Ngahere, Wallis Siding, .Teremakau,- ; Wainihinihf to j Kuinara. Junction and Matainui to Ross j Railway Station.—Approved, the latter area to he restricted to-the cartage of timber. only. '

E. T. Malloy, continuous goods license between Bell Hill, Haupiri, Kotuku, Ngahere and -Stillwater. —Approved.

Robert and James Cowan (Mr T. F. Bros nan). applied for a route license, Hokitika to Waiho, via Woodstock, Rimu, ißoss, Harihari, Matainui and 'me Forks. • -

Mr Brittenden objected-; to the application as it was running in opposition to the railway between Hokitika and Ross;

Queenie " Elizabeth Barrow, service license, - Omo,to mills •to .place of dolivery, Greymouth to Stillwater and Greymouth to Runanga, for carriage of coal -• ahd timber only .—Approved.

Mr Rvosiwn gndd tire- applicant was distributor.- r for Westland Breweries Ltd. and Associated Motorists’ Petrol Coy,, Ltd; Mr Brittenden- said that applicant was entitled to -an automatic license for the beer freight only, bewe-en Reefton-Greymouth-Hokitika and deviations. They could not stop applicant going to West-port by the C°ast Road, but Objected to the area between Westport and Granity. M r Brittenden said that the Authority -could add a -proviso that the Railway Deparment confer with the Associated • Petrol Coy. to see if the Company would send its -petrol for Westport ’and Granity by rail. Mr Eadie eaiid there was the question of servicing and apparently he (applicant)" was able to cart petrol cheaper than the Railway Dep'rtment. - The -application was adjourned until the next -sitting of the Authority, applicant' meantime to carry on as usual. , .

William Green hill and Co. was .granted cancellation of a seasonal license extending to -Hokitika, Reefton, West port -and Rotomonu. Applicant ijaid there were not -enough jobg offering and he could cover it all with a temporary license.

Stanley Rich Wylde (Mr F• A. Kitchingham)' applied for a continuous fruit .carrying license from 'Nelson to Greymouth, with deviation to Riwaka via Tasma.n .or Upper Moutere.—Approved with certain restrictions en route, ,
