William Frank Kirby, of Kara-mea, aged 62 years,- was found hanging in hie washhouse on Wednesday. A doctor was summoned, but life wag found to be extinct. The deceased had been in bad health for some time.

Charles Joseph Moore, of Bright -Street, Cobden, appeared in the Christchurch Police Court on Wednesday, on a charge of stealing £3 2s 6d from the Kotuku Oil and Gold Fields, Ltd., at Greymout-h on May 9. Accused was remanded tiill Saturday, bail being allowed in the sum of £25 and one surety of £25.

At a meeting of parishioners of All Saints’ Church held in the Parish Hall last evening, it was decided to defer consideration of the of the question of building a new Church for a period of three years. The Rev. H. J. W. Knights presided over a fair attendance. There was a considerable discussion on the subject.

At this week’s meeting of the Nelson Rugby Union, (says the ‘"Mail’’) the secretary reported that Nelson’s ishare of the Seddon Shiedld gate at Gveymoiuh was £74 7s 4d, being a half share minus referee’s expenses, and tax (£2O 8s). Nelson’s (share of the gate (60 per cent.) at Westport was about £22, which was very satisfactory. It "WOis resolved to write to the West Coast Union congratulating them •on retaining the Shield against Nelson.

The unusual procedure of fixing a birthday and age of a boy wais adopted by Mr F. TT. Levien, S.M., in the Pukekohe Children’s Court. Some doutot <exlisted as to the child’s oge, his guardians .guessing that it was about 12 years. The magistrate, for record purposes, fixed the age accordingly, and intimated to the boy that his “birthday” would now be on August 1 oi eacn year. “I 'will have to be like the el-' man who writes the almanac—see he gets a good day for it,” remarked 'Mr tLevien, in making the entry.
