'William Elijah Smith and William Robert Henry Smith ; were fined £2 "each for cruelty to the dogs in conveying them. Abraham Kaplan, the owner, was fined £2O for permitting them to 'be conveyed. Harry Vile, greyhound trainer, was fined £2 for causing the dogs to be conveyed lin a manner to give them unnecessary Buffering. Mr John Williams, for th e R.S.P.C. Association, 'said Kaplan wag connected with the greyhound racing track a't Dover, and arranged with the Smiths to convey the greyhounds to Rochester. A furniture van was used, into which practically no air could get; At least 43 dogs were placed in the van, which was 14ft. Bin. in length and 6ft. lOin. in width.
