BERLIN, August 23.
Ruth L'itxig wag the most beautiful and courageous of Germany’s girl swimmers 'She. paid for her stunt record with her life. She died of heart failure, due to strain. More than 150 thousand people paid sixpence each to see her swimming slow, like an imprisoned fish, round a poo] at Essen. She was kept awake only by a jazz band and a loud speaker. Finally, with unseeing eyes, and ,a distorted face, she collapsed. She was saved from drowning by a swimming ingtructor, who leapt into the pool. Wrapped in cotton wool, the woman wa s rushed to a hospital. The cheering crowd thought that she was suffering only from natural exhaustion. SPquth neve r awoke from her .stupor. When her heart stopped beating, it wars revived by injections, but all e* fort s proved unavailing.
