HAVANA, August 21
A crowd dug up the body of Antonio Auciart, ex-President Machado’s hated Police Chief, and dragged it through the streets to the University grounds, where they stripped and hanged it to a and later tried to burn it. Auciart, who ten days ago had position almost supreme in police authority with the power of life or death over the ordinary citizen, killed himself on Saturday. He had been hunted for a week. He died under ian assumed name in a rented room.
Another disorder marked the passing of a former police sergeant, Tito Sampoi. Pursued by members of the A.8.C., he sought refuge in a cafe. There lie killed a chauffeur in a rage, and then killed himself. The new Cuban Government began its second week with the strike situation still acute. Nine European vessels have waited to discharge cargo, and four others awaited loans of sugar. All the.
