FEDERAL ELECTION
EARLY APPEAL TO ELECTORS?
(, Australian Press Association)
SYDNEY, August 21. The “Herald” says: When the House of Representative meets on I September 27, the Country party will j move lor the adjournment, immediately, to direct attention to the “harass- | ing actions of taxation officials.” I This motion is regarded as a grate challenge to the Government, and, it carried, tv ill constitute , a severe form ■ of censure, taking the business out of | tbc hands of the Ministry. It is stated in Federal political | circles that the breach between the United Country party and the United Australia party, cannot be closed, and if the present Ministry is defeated, a I composite administration would be im- ; possible. Taxation proposals and tariff policy are the main cause of the dissen- | sions.
A Camberra correspondent says :-v,Recent, events point to the Lyons Government being forced to make an early appeal to the electors, on the present party lines. The Government cannon be defeated, but could not survive the slightest defection from its ranks.
