RUGBY FOOTBALL
WESTLAND SUB-UNION MEETING,
The Westland Rugby Sub-Union met last evening when there were present; Messrs J. 0,1-Stafford (president),-P, n McGregor, J. L, Menzies, A. Thomp- Wcson, A. Outbusn, 11. McDonald, J. McUleary, D. R. Dowell, and E. W. Heenan.
The Harihari school expressed thanks for the grant of -a football. ; lire West Coast Union approved of next Saturday as the date for the d challenge match for the Dittman .. Shield between Hokitika and Brunner, and also advising that 'the ■ match between Buffer and West Coast would be played at Hokitika on Saturday, September 23. The Inangliua Sub-Union wrote inviting Westland to play a match, at Reef ton* at an early date against A combined Buller-Reefton team..
It was decided that the Inangahua be advised of the position locally, and stating that the match would be kept in view for early 'attention next season. The Westland-Lake Brunner match will be played on Cass Square next Saturday,' and the following referees’, names have been submitted to Brunner Sub-Union: —-A. Cutbush and 1 J. McCleary.
The following junior games will be played as curtain- raisers: —School tb Kokatahi, No 2 ground (F, Carter)) Kiwi v. Ross, No 1 grourtd (J. Rutland). 1 ! ‘ "
Mr J. C. Stafford was appointed manager of the Westland team, and Air J'. Devanev coach, Air Dowell brought up the matter of special trains to Christchurch for the Coast v. Canterbury match on September 2, and moved that the Coast Union be asked to request the Railway Department to run a. special train, leaving Ross at 11 p.in., and Hokitika- at midnight. Failing this the Sub-Union to request a separate special train to' run from Ross, stepping at stations south of Greymouth, and at the above timetable.
The motion was seconded by Air Keenan and carried. Air W. Keller offered to meet any extra expense incurred by the visit of the Buffer team to Hokitika. It was decided to thank Air Keller for' his generous offer. The West Coast Union advised that they would meet the expenses or their own players for this match.

IXTER-COLLEGIAITE MATCHES. WELLINGTON, August 21. The annual quadrangular interedllege Rugby 1/ournament between Wei ling ion, Christ’s, Wanganui, and Nelson, concluded, to-day in a victory for Wellington College, who defeated Christ's College in the final by nine points to six. , , { The match was played under ' worst possible weather conditions and it resolved inio " a' forward struggle. Wellington owed* theirvictory .to the A way their forwards stood up to the heavier Christ's pack. Had the Christchurch team kept the ball on tbo ground, instead of .attempting to bring '• the backs into play in the last quarter of an hour, they would at least have made a draw of it. The Nelson and Wanganui Colleges match resulced in a win for Nelson by six points to five. CATHOLIC SCHOOLS’ TOURNEY. (.
