FARMERS’ REQUEST. ASHBURTON, August 19. A request for a Government subsidy of £SOO £ for £ for increasing the capacity of water races for irrigation, was placed before the Hon. A. Ransom, by the County Council. The Minister recognised the value of irrigation in mid-Canterbury and promised to confer with the Hon. J. C-. Coates as to finance. . The mid Canterbury executive of the Farmers’ Union resolved, protesting against a reduction of the period, that steak from England must spend in an intermediate country.
