MINING
ALEXANDER MINES LIMITED : The annual m'eetiug of shareholders! was held on the ■ 4th.’ inst. Dr D. A. Me Vicar, Chairman of Directors, presided. Sixty-two shareholders were represented personally and by proxy, holding 43,038 shares. The directors report, balance 1 sheet, and'statement ‘ profit and | loss for the year ended May 31st. 1933. 1 were received and abopted. ' j There being no other nominations, j f the retiring Directors —Messrs A. F. j ; O’Donnell and S. A, A. Fry—were reelected, the 'remuneration in each -case being the snnie as lagt year, Two suggestions were received from a Christchurch Shareholder (1) That the shares in the Company be sub- , divided into shares of smaller denom- f ination s (os per'share being suggested). ) (2) That representatives'of .the press : front the leading newspapersAhT the J West Coast, Christchurch ahd --’ else- : where be invited to make a- visit of . inspection of the mine at the Goinany’g j expense, as the public would be very i greatly interested in a comprehensive report in the mine generally. " - - j The meeting refused to discuss the i second proposal, and in dealing with j .the first • suggestion, a'resolution was; proposed and seconded that the { question of dividing the shares into j smaller denominations should be sub- j mitted to the shareholders of the Com-; pany to ascertain their views on the - matter. An amendment was then pro- , posed that the letter from the share- j holder making these two suggestions should be laid on the table to be brought before the next atinual meeting | of shareholders. On a shew of hands being called for the motion was over- ' whelmingly defeated, and the amend- I ment carried.
A final resolution was carried to the effect that tho meeting wished to impress upon the Mines Department the urgent necessity for the construction of a decent road from the school and Township at Alexander River to the Battery, and that the assistance of Messrs M. Fagan, M.L.O. and H. E. Holland, he invoked on this matter.
Mr Bohtho, the Mine Manager, -was present at the Meeting and reported that a Drive had been driven out Bft to the eastward of the eastern block recently intercepted east of No 3 Level and a strong body of ore had been cut. This has penetrated 4 ft. with no eastern wall showing. This reef is clean and solid and is going strong underfoot. Gold can readily be iseen in the stone.
