PASS FATALITY
CORONER'S RIDER AT INQUEST,

CHRISTCHURCH, August 18,
The Owner (Mr E. D. Aloslgv), delivered his ‘verdict this morning concerning the death .of Samuel Edgar (Bussell, the , Training College student, Who was. killed on Avalanche Beak oil ■July 50, holding that death was due ■to suffocation, and. shock caused by being, accidently overwhelmed in a snow 1 slide.
In ii rider, Air. Alosley Raid : “The •evidence satisfies me that a mountaineering party .should always be limited a s to its numbers, and the individuals therein should be definitely ascertained before starting. Parties, where possible, should place themselves under the direction .of an experienced mountaineer, and parties are , recommended to keep to the ridges as. far as possible'.”
The following was added to the verdict: “To some people, the spirit of •adventure, calls very loudly, and mountaineering, with difficulties and dangers proves .an irresistible attraction, and mountaineering club 6 'should be encouraged so that people who desire it may gradually be educated in mountaineering, .and taught. to appreciate and avoid danger*.
