LONDON, August 17
The “Manchester Guardian,” referring to the Assyrian massacres, says that there if.re about forty thousand Assyrian concerned, half of whom are homeless, while the others are scattered about in temporary villages on an arid mountain area- north of Mosul.
They were Ibitterly disappointed • when Geneva failed to safeguard them as a community when Iraq was given independence. The crux of the matter is that the Assyrians want an assurance that they will be allowed to live together for their own protection, and be ruled by theij. own Archbishop. Thereupon they will lay down arm's, and will swear loyalty to King Feisal, but the Iraq Government demands their sub-, mission upon whatever conditions the Iraq Government impose.
