PLOT FAILED

TRAP. TO ayTCH kidnappers.

MEN MAKE SENSATIONAL ESCAPE

CHICAGO, August 16. Two gangsters beiieved to 'be membees of a widely ramnified kidnapping gang, made , a sensational escape from am elaibov..|te trap laid 'by Federal agents armed with machine guns. The gangsters had demanded a further fifty thousand dollars from Jake Factor, who enlisted the aid of the police.

A detective, disguised as a. mesenger boy, was given money to take to a roadside resort. Wheat he paid the money over, he was to give a, signal to an aeroplane, which, in turn, was to radio the police to block all roods in the vicinity. The kidnappers took the money, and started away in an automobile. The aeroplane broadcast a •warning, when the pilot dropped low. cud Istarted firing ©u the automobile with a machine gun. Meanwhile a webre of police in automobiles v'ent into action, and fired upon and wrecked the gangsters’ car, but the occupants succeeded in gaining their freedom on foot, through some m'njdarbrush, ft is now stated tint only a few’ bills were given the gangsters for the purpose of evidence, if they were caught, an<l not the whole fifty thousand dollars demanded.
