HOKITIKA CLUB CHAMPIONS

ADAMSON, MANDL AND CHILDS

Glorious weather prevailed on Satin - -

day afternoon far the finals of the' Hokitika Golf Club’s championships' which were won by Adamson (senior), I Mandl (intermediate), and Childs (junior). A remarkable feature is that

the '.margin of "victory each case was the same, 5 up and 4, which was "also the irefiult of the ladies’ championship. The finalists in the senior grade yv© re Adamson .’and Chesney. Holder of the men’s title- on 16 occasions, Qhesfiey w»s defeated last year by Adamson 1 up, and on Saturday Adamson retained the senior title. There wa s little difference between them on actual field play, tout the principal factor in Adanitjpn’s. win rvas his .accurate green work, several holes being, won by long putts. Their medal, scores, however, were not up to championship standard.

In the intermediate grade, the title was not defended, 'Saturday’s finalises being Mandl and Tomlinson. .In tips grade, also the play wag mot ,qf championship standard, although the play was good over the second nine holes. Mandl was a little .more certain in his shots, while Tomlinson difficulty in getting into rough country, which lost him several holes. .

Childs played really good golf in his match with Mclntyre, who. did, not play up to .usual game. The winner played steadily throughout, early 'gainin a lead which he maintained.

In /each section, the finalists were the first two in the qualifying lists. The umpires were Messrs N. Winchester (senior), C. Neville (intermediate) and J. C; Macfarlane. (junior). A oner-club match wag played by the ,elub on Saturday afternoon and resulted in a win for (Mclntosh. The winner tied with Reese in the nett scone, tout Avon by virtue of his loAvev higndicap. The best cards were:—McJntflish 111—29—82 ; Reese 112 —30—82 ; Houston 100—17—83.

A Ngav Zealand Avomen’s golf, tqam will leave for Australia by the Wanganella nex.t Friday to play in. an •inaugural contest Avith an Australian .women’s team. The. teams are: Mrs Guy Williams (capt. and manager), Mrs Templer. (Wainmt.e), the present champion; and thr.ee previous champions, Mrs Dodgshun, Miss O. Kay CB'lmacewan),. and Miss B, Gaisfdrd (Malrton)'. The match will he played in conjunction with the Australian women’s championship at Melbourne, in Avhich the New Zealanders av ill. compete.
