The funeral of the late .Mr Augustus Thorpe of Sale Street took place yesterday lafternoon. There was a very large .attendance of mourners present from all round the district and many flora] tributes. The Rev. C. 0. Hailwood Conducted .the service at the house and later at the graveside.
-A young son of Mr and Mrs Y\. 'Gore Porte'-', of Reefton, sustained a ■fractured arm through falling off a donkey. It was decided to take the child to Greymouth so that the injured limb could be X-rayed, and it was ascertained that the inury is a serious one, the elbow as well as the upper arm being badly hurt.
The Spartan plane, which ha? recently been enlarged for passengers, left Timaru on Saturday about 10.30, aniving shortly before noon. Mr A. jS’ancekivell was pilot and lie had two ladies and a child as passengers, with their personal luggage. The flight took U hours and the conditions were perfect, a splendid view of the snow-clad mountains ibeing obtained. The crossing was made by way of Whit-combe Pass.
Owing to the further inroads of the sea iat Okariio ccmtery the bodies interred there had .again to be moved recently. ' They are now deposited at the far end of th© reserve upwards of twenty chains from the latest erosion, and considered in a safe position. The order-in-council affecting the harbour improvements is said now to be finalised, and when th© work is carried out the cemetery area should be safe for all time*

The weather for the week end was perfect. .Saturday morning broke fine and gradually cleared while yesterday wan a perfect cloudless day, following a heavy ,frost. 'This .morning similar conditions prevailed.
The gas cooking demonstration will bo continued at the Soldiers’ Hall by Mrs G. Heinz to-morrow afternoon at 2.30 o’clock. T-hc picparation s will include patty meat pies, cornflour cakes, pine aj>pic snow, girdle scones, and pikelets.
The m.v. Gael sailed for Wellington fully laden .at 3 o’clock yesterday afternoon. The cargo included 25 .-on,, oi seedling trees from the State Forest Nursery for the Wellington Oi’.ty Council, foil’ planting on the hills surrounding the city. The Gael leaves Wellington for Hokitika on Wednesday.
A final reminder is given of the auction sale of pedigree Jersey heifers at Kokatahi sale yards on Wednesday by Messrs M. Houston and Co., on account of Mr John Monk. As the dairy herd of Mr Monk has a wonderful record for butterfat production, an opportunity will thus be given to I Vest Coastfanners to secure milking stock of the right class. Each heifer is numbered and when being submitted, the butterfat production of its dam will he supplied at the sale. In addition to Mr Monk’s heifers a further entry of ten choice Jersey cross heifers will also ha offered! on account of Mr N. Harris, of Koiterangi.
